odd Janko’s undead.

And there is no resurrection without a descent into the Underworld.

For the last few years, odd Janko has been an extension of my art practice—a space to explore my Slavic heritage and a chance to live my childhood dream of running my own clothing brand. But a creative engine cannot run on empty. I have always said that odd Janko was “an art project that went too far”- I didn’t start with market research or a business plan- I wanted to reconnect with my Motherland, and with the version of me I had left behind when I moved to the UK. Along the way, I shared this project with you and grew it into a sustainable brand for fellow odd Creatures. But I am an artist. My creative practice is hungry, and odd Janko is no longer where or what it should be. The relentless pressure of running a retail business keeps getting in the way of actual creation. Therefore, I am taking time to read, write, paint, experiment, and explore what and where odd Janko wants to be - without the suffocating weight of running a commercial clothing line.

Starting in February, I am stepping into a full studio sabbatical. This sabbatical is my quiet, necessary descent into the dark of the studio to find what comes next.

Here is what that means for the odd Janko tribe:

• Leaving the Stanley Road Store: 31st of January 2027 will be my final day at the Stanley Road Store in Brighton.

• The Archival Sale: To clear the decks, I am holding a massive clearance of the final items from the Death Becomes Them collection. Some of the core odd Janko styles will be included as well. You can shop at the Stanley Road Store in Brighton, and online, of course. Once they are gone, they are gone permanently.

• Closing of the e-shop: The last online orders will be accepted on the 22nd of January (except the odd 1 eau de parfum).

• The Perfume Survives: I know some of you (myself included) have developed an odd 1 habit - the signature perfume will remain available on the website shop throughout my sabbatical. (Just so you know, there are about 15 sample vials and 30 full-size bottles left of this batch).

• Postcards from the Underworld: I plan to document this time, and my thoughts and experiments on Substack. Think of each post as a diary entry, or a postcard sent from the studio—a piece of writing, visual experimentation, or a fascinating reference I wanted to share from the dark of my research year.

If you have ever bought an odd Janko or Death Becomes Them piece—thank you for supporting an artist’s devotion to their practice and being a part of this universe. Creating enchanting stuff for disenchanted people is probably my life's mission, so I shall continue to do that, no matter what form it takes next.
